December 2007
This past year has seen our ministry truly impact the community locally and nationally. I have found that as social activists we must know when to seize the moment. To maximize opportunities given to us to proclaim the message of life. As you well know we live in an ever increasing liberal media. Society still depends on the secular reporting factions for much of their news. Learning the language of media and their motives is important in our struggle to reach the masses.
This past year I had the opportunity to switch political parties and run in the blue to attempt to make a district red. In a district (34) gerrymandered for democrats to win this presented quite a challenge. One city out numbered republicans 90 to 1. We cracked the wall but we have yet to break through! The platform’s message was well received. Due to cost we were not to get it to everyone.
Surprisingly to many we stirred the embers of the fire of the Afro-American community. A fire that was nearly out. We reminded them of their values and the importance of our children’s future. The work still goes on! In a sense we have not stopped campaigning. We have the strategy and the plan. It will take a continual effort to root up this political stronghold. I will be a candidate in 2009. Why? Because the local media coverage brought an additional 47,000 hits to the website in one week. The largest paper in our state wrote a story on my candidacy. That opportunity allowed our message to go to ears that had not heard. Those people are now digesting a strong message and I believe it will produce change gradually in the community. Alveda King’s visit and impact assured me that this is the way to win back our community to their allegiance to family values and not the party.
Once again we achieved great activity on our website Black Genocide. This site was designed to expose the lie of abortion and educate the public and pro-life advocates. When visiting different cities it is encouraging to see the name of our website on signs being held by pro-life demonstrators. When traveling to Canada my campaign manager was amazed to find how many pro-lifers knew of the website and referred to it often. We will attempt to update the site more and bring you pertinent information. The high week for the year was 157,000 during the campaign. Due to our increasing social activism which always brings in new converts and visitors to the website 8 million hits were recorded.
My favorite event of the year is “Walk For Life San Francisco” www.walkforlifeWC.com. Due to the awesome efforts of Dolores Meehan & Eva Mutean the event grows every year. This past year a predominately Afro-American church marched with us. That church has increasingly gotten more involved in the pro-life movement. Good News! On the day before the march in San Francisco this coming year, the progressive Baptist church and associate Pastor Walter Hoye will lead a march this coming year in Oakland. We will be walking through the Afro-American neighborhood and this will be a first. Walter Hoye and his Pastor Earl Stuckey invited myself and Star Parker to do a weekend conference at his church a few years ago. This is the fruit of that effort and we are extremely grateful to see it.
This year at Berkley College California we managed to keep the students from conveniently borrowing the PA system at the time of our event! In 2006 they grabbed the system before the event. Like General Mac Arthur I vowed to return and I did this past year. It was great and the crowds of students in the square (outside) were present to hear my presentation and many chose to stay and chat briefly with me after. The 1 hour message of life from the steps of the college administration building in the California sun was awesome.
I had the opportunity to sow seeds of life on over twenty different radio stations and I am very proud to say the BBC was one of them.
In collaboration with another group, we launched the website www.OBAMANATION.Com. It caused quite a stir in the Obama camp. The site was even mentioned on the Obama 07 website. Perhaps that’s where the BBC picked up on the site. Jolly ole England was fascinated with the facts that I gave about the decimation of the Afro-American community by the abortion industry. It was a first and I hope won’t be the last.
Rapid deployment is pivotal in the the Pro-life movement. The call to go to Portland Oregon and Kansas City Kansas (oh my) was a very rewarding experience. I saw such diversity of faiths coming together not to discuss religion but to stop the killing. I saw a school teacher grieved over the predatory practices planned parent hood go to the front lines of the battle to prevent a killing station in their city. Bill Diss has led the contingent of valiant pro-life citizens in a struggle to keep Planned Parent-hood out of their neighborhood. The fight goes on!
The Kansas City confrontation was unrehearsed and unplanned and unexpected. When ever I hear the name Kansas and being 54 years of age I think of Dorothy. (Wizard of OZ) Well, where Dorothy was concerned with lions and tigers and bears and the wicked witch of the west, I had a greater danger! The president of Planned Parent-Hood, Ann Richards (oh my!) Bill Calvin of Cbr called me to come down to join with him in a protest at an annual Planned-Parenthood event that she was attending. While flying in I was called by Bill to be ready to do an interview as soon as I would get off the plane with NBCTV news. I was impressed that he would come out to interview me but it was a lot more to it than I realized.
Ann Richards and I were on the same plane! She boarded right in front of me but I did not recognize who she was. (Did I see a little basket with a dog in it?) Well, you can see the interview here. It is the classic battle of the Prophet and the Queen. (I won’t say it)
The conferences this past year were extremely productive! Whether it was Iron Sharpens Iron in Visalia California, Michigan Right To Life in Detroit, The town meeting in Kalamazoo Michigan, Festival of Life in Powathan Virginia, Gap in Philadelphia Pennsylvania, Cambridge New Hampshire, National Right To life Conference in Nashville Tennessee or our Learn Conference in Atlanta, Georgia, they all furthered the movement for life and edified pro-life warriors for service.
Last and certainly not least LEARN initiated and led a significant protest against the NAACP last July 10 in Detroit. The refusal to read a resolution prepared by Loretta Grier a member of LEARN
At the NAACP National Convention was a golden opportunity to bring attention to the public of the hypocrisy of this once heralded organization. A concerted effort of Pro-life groups, Levon Yuille, of Black Pro-life Congress, Dr. Alveda King of Priest for life, Minister Arnold Culbreath of Life Issues Institute led to major news coverage. There was considerable pressure mounted outside
By the presence of Pastor Yuille’s team of demonstrators. It’s not over and it will work together for our good. We welcomed a new and upcoming brother in the battle for the unborn Arnold Culbreath of life issues. This project will prove to be significant blow to the pro-aborts that target the Afro-American community.
Thank you for your prayers and support! We are taking on quite a bit but the future of our children and the destiny of the nation is at stake. We have a plan and with your help we will make it come to fruition. Please, after reading this short summery of this past year make a commitment to Learn Northeast to continue its effective work that is so desperately needed. If I am reading the new CDC report correctly the number of abortions in the Black Community seemed to be leveling off. Since we are targeted more than any other ethnic group in the country this is a good sign. Your help will
expedite all of what we plan to do this year to keep the trend going.
God Bless You All,
Rev. Clenard H. Childress Jr.
